Nancy Jean Thompson, 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Raven, Va. but had lived most of her life in the Abingdon/Bristol area. Nancy was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church for over 35 years, where she actively supported missions. She was a loving friend who enjoyed spending her leisure time reading her Bible and watching Gospel TV. Nancy was an entrepreneur and owned several businesses. Her last business was Leeway Home Fashions. She will be remembered as a loving friend to all.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Anna Mae Whitt; her first husband William “Bill” Steele; her second husband Jim Thompson; her special adopted son David Steele; brothers Paul Whitt, Otis, Oris, and Joe Southern; and sister Alice White.
Survivors include her sister Pauline Stilwell; God-daughter Cindy Collins; nieces Linda Elkins, Pauletta Patton, Debbie Hodge, and Rose White; nephews Randall, Dennis and Glenn White; special friend and caregiver Patsy Gobble, and canine fur baby Jasper.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens (19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210) with Reverend Brad Davis and Reverend Josh Davis officiating. Honorary casket bearers will be Randall White, Dennis White, Glenn White, Harley White, David Whitt, Stacy Collins, and Deacons and Friends at Antioch Baptist Church.
