Ned Yokley Hayter, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was retired from Southern States of Abingdon and was an owner of Royster-Hayter Fertilizer Company in Meadowview. He was a member of Meadowview United Methodist Church.

He was born to the late Zollie A. Hayter and Bertha Garrett Hayter. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Gail Hayter and Elwood Hayter; and one sister, Ellen Parris.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jennie Meade Hayter; son, Michael Meade Hayter and wife Susan of Emory, VA; two sisters, Violet Wagner of Abingdon, VA and Roselle Stewart of Pulaski, VA; and two grandchildren, Jessica Hayter of Pensacola, FL and Karl Hayter of Richmond, VA.

Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home following visitation with Reverend David Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Holston Conference Cemetery in Emory, VA where pallbearers will be the Men of Meadowview United Methodist Church.
