Nell Elizabeth Selfe Lilly, 79, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 22, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burl J. Lilly. They had a wonderful life together enjoying daily competitive rounds of gin rummy, crossword puzzles and trying to out-guess the other on weather predictions. Nell was a matriarch of the Selfe family; insuring her family stayed in touch through annual family reunions, where her rousing bingo games earned prizes provided from her love of yard sales and thrift shops. She visited her favorite shops daily and went on a recent Caribbean cruise; remaining active and spunky to her last day.
Nell was one of 12 children of the late John and Bessie Fleenor Selfe and is also preceded in death by four brothers, Claude, John, Jack and Jerry Selfe, and six sisters, Ethel Smeltzer, Ora Roe, Stella Dickson, Mary Raines, Cleo Urbancyzk and Betty Combs.
Mrs. Lilly is survived by one brother, Earl G. Selfe of Kingsport, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Knollkreg Memorial Park with Pastor Wayne Dickson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Dickson, James Hope, Emit Boothe, Tim Selfe and Earl Selfe.
Family and friends wishing to travel in procession to the cemetery are asked to gather at the funeral home by 3:00 P.M. Tuesday.
Visitation with the family will be held from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Tuesday just prior to the service at the Main Street Location of Farris Funeral Service.
