Nina Kiser Burson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on December 25, 2023, at the age of 84. She was born in Cleveland, Virginia to her parents Lonnie and Cleo Kiser. Nina was one of seven siblings, with her beloved sister, Audrey Kiser Barnes, her “Ride or Die”, by her side throughout the last few years on this earth. They were often referred to as Thelma and Louise. Nina was a fighter til the end, having survived both breast and lung cancer, fighting the good fight for all those who follow her.
Nina met and married the love of her life, Robert Kelley, and they had two beautiful daughters, Kimberly and Robin. She supported “Bob” in his many business ventures and was by his side when he succumbed to ALS at a very early age.
After that she met and married John Burson, who she spent many years together before he left this earth.
Above all else, Nina will be remembered for her unwavering loyalty. She looked up to her brothers for advice and earthly wisdom. Nina loved cheering on her grandchilden and great-grandchildren during their activities. She cherished the bonds she forged with family and friends and held them close throughout the years. Her steadfast devotion was evident in every relationship she cultivated; anyone who had the privilege of knowing Nina could count on her unwavering support and love. She loved her family, church, Pleasant View United Methodist, and her Lord Jesus Christ.
In addition to her parents, Nina was preceded in death by her husbands, Bob Kelley, and John Burson. She was also proceeded by her daughter, Robin Harman, her brother-in-law, James Barnes, and sister-in-law, Ramona Kiser.
Nina is survived by her daughter, whom she loved dearly, Kimberly Kelley, her granddaughters Kelley McLaughlin (Craig), Darby Carr (Blaine), great-grandchildren Britton Rock, Celeste Rock, Elizabeth McLaughlin, Caroline McLaughlin, and; brothers Willis (Georgia), Clydes (Shirley), Larry, James (Linda), Gerald (Mildred), and sister Audrey Barnes; and too many nieces, nephews and cousins to name. Her family would like to send out a special recognition to Arlene Fields for all the years of being her rock and caregiver. Also, to her medical providers, Andrew McCormick, Brittney Vestal, and Amedysis Home Health.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Farris Funeral Service, 427 E. Main Street in Abingdon. A Celebration of Life will be held to honor and remember Nina Burson following the visitation at 1:00. p.m. with Barbara Farmer officiating. Dr. Clint Sutherland will be providing special music. Her graveside service will be held immediately following the service at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Gary Kiser, Mark Kiser, Weston Kiser, Roger Kiser, Sage Rock and Joey Arden will be serving as pallbearers.
