Norman Cowan, 77, passed away on Thurday, November 30, 2017, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born in Saltville, Va., son of the late Thad T. Cowan and Lucille Campbell Cowan. Norman retired from Reynolds Metals. He was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church, Abingdon Masonic Lodge #48, Kazim Temple of Roanoke, and Scottish Rite of Roanoke. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Henry “Bub” Cowan.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Cowan; daughter Sandy Jean Cowan Keith of Chilhowie, Va.; two brothers, Roby Lee Cowan and wife Brenda of Glade Spring, Va., and Clayton Cowan and wife Betty of Vinton, Va.; sister Catherine Collins and husband Carl “Happy” Collins of Roanoke; sister-in-law Sue McCready Cowan of Glade Spring; one granddaughter, Dana Keith Keesee and husband Doug of Chilhowie; and three great-grandchildren, Dakota Keesee and wife Nickie, Dillon and Kaylee Keesee, all of Chilhowie.
A graveside service for Norman Cowan will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2017, at Mt. Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery mausoleum from noon until 12:50 p.m. prior to the graveside service. There will be a Masonic service led by Abingdon Masonic Lodge #48 and an Eastern Star service led by Eastern Star Chapter 182 of Abingdon.
