Abingdon, VA - Norman Dayton Harris, Jr., age 76, passed on Friday, January 10, 2025 at his home. Dayton was a 1967 graduate of Rich Valley High School. He was a deputy with the Washington County Virginia Sheriff's office for nearly 30 years and was a member of many of the department teams including the SWAT team. Dayton was a member of Victory Baptist Church, loved classic cars, and was an avid firearms collector.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Dayton Harris, Sr., and Kathleen Mae Griffiths Harris; wife, Linda Ann McReynolds; and son-in-law, Victor Smith.
Dayton is survived by two daughters, Angelia Smith and Bethany Harris; step-son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Tammy Fleenor; and three grandchildren, Holly, Blaine, and Anna Brook. Angelia and Bethany would like to acknowledge Dayton's companion, Amelia "Sis" McCray.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2025 at Main Street Chapel - Farris Funeral Service. A funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Austin Cook officiating. Interment will be private in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
