Ola Mae Plummer Cook, 96, passed on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at her home. Mrs. Cook was a lifelong resident of Washington County and formerly attended Mt. View United Methodist Church. At age 10 she wrote President Franklin D. Roosevelt asking for help for the poor people in Washington County. He responded to her letter telling her that “she should be a teacher or lawyer.” Mrs. Cook spent much of her time at the Senior Citizens Center and volunteering at the animal rescue, children’s benefits, and homeless activities.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Troy Oscar Plummer and Julie E. Stroupe Plummer; three husbands, Charles Woodward, Malcom Tolliver, and Edward Cook; two sons, Charlie and Roger Dale; daughter, Linda; three brothers, Robert, Arthur, and Noah Plummer; and sisters, Roxy Greer and Lillian Coffey.
Mrs. Cook is survived by four sons, Arthur Woodard of Abingdon, Va., George (Sharon) Woodard of Meadowview, Va., Ricky (Debbie) Woodard of Bristol, Va., and Charlie (Kim) Woodard of Bristol, Va.; five daughters, Jean Lanier of Denton, N.C., Judy (Gary) Lamar of Asheboro, N.C., Phibby Venable of Abingdon, Va., Janet Evans of Abingdon, Va., and Lona Kay Waskey of Meadowview, Va.; over 70 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tim Norris officiating. Interment will be held in Knollkreg Memorial Park with Jeffery Eldreth, Ricky James Woodard, Eric Worley, Raymond Woodard, Jr., Brandon Woodard, and Charles Woodard serving as pallbearers.
