Oneta Jordan Ashbrook

Oneta Jordan Ashbrook, 78, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Castlewood, VA and had lived in Abingdon since 1977. Mrs. Ashbrook worked as a manager of WHTO until she was 76, and she was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. She loved to work and enjoyed cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Whitfield Brockman Castle and Rosa Mary Carty Castle; a special grandson, Freddie Brown, a sister-in-law Thelma Castle, and a nephew Gary Castle.

She is survived by her husband Herbie Ashbrook; one son, Jeff Jordan of Abingdon; five daughters: Sherry and husband Tom Conkle of Blountville, TN; Teresa and husband Mac Hawkins of Abingdon; Deloris Jordan Salyer of Abingdon; Joy and husband Mike Harris of Glade Spring; and Denna and husband Harry Burleson of Bristol, VA; two brothers: Guy Castle of Castlewood and Roger and wife Peggy Castle of Bristol, VA; one sister, Dana and husband Perry Warner of Kingsport, TN; eight grandchildren: Regina Hawkins, Kevin and wife Amy Salyer, Brock and wife Hillary Hawkins, Tim Salyer, Josh and wife Sarah Conkle, Dustin and wife Samantha Salyer, Brittney Burleson, and Cody Harris; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and special friends Debbie Meade and Mike Patrick.

Services for Oneta Jordan Ashbrook will be conducted Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 8:00 PM at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 427 East Main Street, Abingdon with Rev. Bob McCormick officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Kevin Salyer, Brock Hawkins, Josh Conkle, Dustin Salyer, Cody Harris, Jake Brown, and Luke Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be sons-in-laws Mac Hawkins, Tom Conkle, Mike Harris, and Harry Burleson.

The committal service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. Family and friends may meet at the funeral home by 1:00 p.m. Wednesday for a procession to the cemetery. Special thanks to Wellmont Hospice and Tim Anderson at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
