Oscar Tipton, age 88, formerly of Dickenson County, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Blumenthal Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
He was born to the late John & Elizabeth Tipton. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Norma Tipton, siblings E.B. Tipton, Cody Tipton, Nannie Colley, Hassie Deel, and Charlotte Musick.
He is survived by three daughters, Sharon Pasek and husband, Marty of Greensboro, North Carolina, Suzanne Dewar and husband, Don of Westland, Michigan, and Linda Olson and husband, Michael of Thompson's Station, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Donnie, Nick, John, and Heidi; and four great-grandchildren, Logan, Nora, Delilah, and Lucy. He is also survived by siblings, Lillie Herron, Mae Ellyson, Ruby Messer, and W.C. Tipton.
He was a World War II veteran and in the Army, Company B, 112th Engineer. Battles & Campaigns - Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe. Awards - Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with Arrowhead.
A private graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. John E. Massey, Jr. officiating.
