Abingdon, VA – Patricia “Pat” Burnop Phillips went home on Thursday March 8, 2018 in Johnson City Medical Center. She was born May 12, 1939 in Rural Retreat, VA to the late Lee and Vivian Burnop. Pat grew up in Marion, VA and graduated from Marion Senior High School. She also attended Draughons Business School in Bluefield, VA and worked a short while at Brunswick and Wilson Insurance Agency in Marion. In 1961 she married Jim Phillips and they had one daughter, Lesa.
Jim’s job as an engineer required them to move several times later in his career. With each of these moves Pat made lifelong friendships. These moves took them from Marion to Raleigh, NC, Simpsonville, SC and Montgomery, AL. Upon Jim’s retirement they settled in Abingdon, VA.
Pat was known for her outgoing personality and genuine concern for others. Throughout her life she dedicated her time to helping those in need. She volunteered with organizations such as PTO, Arthritis Drive, Cancer Drive, and Meals on Wheels. She also had a strong dedication to her Lord and Savior and was active in several churches where they lived. Most recently, she was a member of the Abingdon Baptist Church where she very much enjoyed the ladies circle.
Pat is survived by her husband Jim, her daughter Lesa Brame (husband Joel) of Rocky Mount, NC and one brother Ron Burnop (wife Charlene) of Marion, VA.
A cryptside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2018 in the Serenity Gardens Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Minister Tom Crise officiating. A visitation will follow in the Fellowship Hall at Abingdon Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
