Patrick Michael Murphy

Glade Spring, VA Mr. Patrick Michael “Mike” Murphy, age 63, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born in West Virginia and had lived in Washington County, VA for more than thirty years. Mike was a carpenter and contractor and was known for his restoration work with cabins and old buildings. Aside from his family and work, Mike loved to fish. Mike is survived by his wife of 22 years, Julia Harris Murphy; son James Hunter Murphy of California; two step-daughters, Amanda Stewart Smith and husband Johnny of Glade Spring, VA, and Karen Ann Stewart of Abingdon; sister Sheila Murphy Alligood and husband James of Meadowview, VA; and two grandchildren, Lucas Eli Smith and Leena Blakely Smith. A memorial service for Patrick Michael Murphy will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 5:00 pm in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA, with Pastor John Surber officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm prior to the service at the Forest Hills Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Niswonger Children’s Hospital, 400 N. State of Franklin Road, Johnson City, TN 37604-6094.
