Paul Leonard Quetsch

July 19, 1958 — August 7, 2023

Abingdon

Paul Leonard Quetsch of Abingdon passed away Monday, August 7, 2023. He was born July 19, 1958 in McLean, Virginia, the third of 7 children by John R. and Mary F. Quetsch. After graduating from Radford University, Paul lived in Allentown, Pennsylvania briefly before making Southwest Virginia his home. He began a career in the construction materials industry, primarily with E. Dillon & Company of Swords Creek. Paul met his future wife Donna Warren as a customer at Abingdon Cleaners in the late 1980's, a business the couple would later purchase and successfully operate for 20 years with the help of their son Joseph.

Paul was a faithful member of the Abingdon Bible Church where he served as Deacon. He participated regularly in Bible Study Fellowship. He was a joyous member of The Gideons International and made the Holy Bible a framework for his life, sharing God's word with both young and old in his engaging style. In the past, Paul was an active leader in Scouting and passed his love for the outdoors to many kids, forming friendships and memories that came back to comfort and make him proud over the years. His plain-spoken candor endeared him to all, both personally and professionally, and was the basis for his much-loved sense of humor. When he said casually to people, "love you, mean it", he did mean it. His empathy and generosity were well known, and he reflected God's love by sharing all that he had.

Paul was preceded in death by his beloved son, Joseph Warren Quetsch, who passed away in 2014, as well as his parents John R. and Mary F. Quetsch. He is survived by his devoted wife Donna; brothers John (Lisa), Larry, Jim (Carolyn) and Joe (Debbie); sisters Martha Kiesel (John) and Mary Gaetjen (Jimmy Rose) and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends from all over Virginia and beyond.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Abingdon Bible Church, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 11:00 am at Abingdon Bible Church with Pastor Jason Bakker and Pastor Paul Bufford officiating. Following the service, friends and loved ones are invited to accompany Paul to his final resting place at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon. Pallbearers will be Randy Thomas, John Schumaker, Gary Hartsock, Stacy Hayden, Robbie Shields and Thomas (Doc) O'Neil. Honorary pallbearers will be Bible Study Fellowship members, Gideon members, Steven Dotson, Ram Tankersley and Jeff Smith.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Christian School Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 2228, Abingdon, VA 24212 or Abingdon Bible Church Memorial Fund, 16210 Elementary Drive, Abingdon, VA 24210.
