Paul R. Vannoy 73, of Bristol, TN and of the Alvarado Community, went to be with the Lord October 13, 2014 after a quiet loving day with his family. He was born May 15, 1941 in Sullivan County, the son of Alex and Flossie Vannoy. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Helen Vannoy; son William Paul and wife Tammy; daughter Jessica Copley and husband Jimmy, and a very special grandson Christopher Vannoy and Samantha; six other very loved grandchildren, Zach, Kayla, Weston, Michaela, Jacquelynn and Ericha; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Paul is also survived by his sisters Virginia Stroupe, Blanche Hill, and Irene Parks. Paul held a special place in his heart for his adopted brother Tim and sister Belle; his beloved dog Odie who was always by his side, as well as Walter and Rescue. He especially appreciated his close friendships at work with John Denton and Matt Miller and many more co-workers. He was a lifelong farmer, a self-made carpenter, and was a respected and beloved employee at General Engineering for 36 years. Paul never met a stranger and was strength to many. He always gave kind words and a helping hand to all who asked and many who did not. He was a caretaker to many of God's creatures and he loved roses; we know he is tending the Lord's gardens now. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bruce Higinbothom, Falcon Pharmacy, his home care nurses Angie and Wanda, and others in the community for their kindness during Paul's short illness. Services will be held at Greenwood Church on Friday, October 17th from 6-7 pm. Following the service the family will receive visitors at the home. In lieu of flowers the family request that a donation be made in Paul's honor to the American Cancer Society or Washington County Animal Shelter. The family of Paul R. Vannoy is being cared for by Farris Funeral Service and Crematory, 427 East Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210 (276-623-2700).
