Paul William Miller, age 96, of Meadowview, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born February 2, 1921, to the late Marion Miller and May Paris Miller. Paul was a veteran of the 329th Infantry of the United States Army having served during War World II in the Normandy Campaign on the second wave of Omaha Beach. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Paul retired from Raytheon as a machinist and was a member of High Point Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Algerine Miller; three brothers, J.C., Earl, and Lynn Miller; and three sisters, Margaret Branch, Pearl Widener, and Rebecca Stapleton.
Paul is survived by his loving companion, Catherine Johnson, of Abingdon, Va.; son, Tony Miller and wife, Cathy, of Meadowview, Va.; brother, Julian Miller and wife, Alice, of Bluff City, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Geneva Miller of Bristol, Tenn.; he was “Papaw” to two grandsons, Tyler Miller and wife, Kayla, of Meadowview, Va. and Ethan Miller of Meadowview, Va.; and two great grandchildren, Savana and Kynlee.
A funeral ceremony will be held on 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. Gary Garland and the Rev. David Critcher officiating. A committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 19th at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Military Honors will be presented by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. Pallbearers will be Tyler Miller, Ethan Miller, Gary Miller, Glen Miller, Jerry Widener, Mike Johnson, Mark Cook, and Stevie Branch. Kyle Johnson, Hunter Cook, Homer Wilson, Mike Miller, Larry Miller, Michael Paul Miller, and David Miller will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18th at the funeral home prior to the service. Friends may call at the home of Catherine Johnson or Tony and Cathy Miller.
