Peggy Carol Belcher Ratliff, 81, passed on Sunday, April 21, 2019, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. Peggy was a graduate of Hurley High School, earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Pikeville University, and later earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Virginia. She was an elementary educator for 31 years during which time she taught at Patterson, Vansant, and Garden Elementary Schools in Buchanan County, Va. Peggy was a resident of Freedom Pointe Retirement Home and a member of Painter Creek Church of Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Boyd Belcher and Lillian Fowler Belcher; husband, Emory Henry Ratliff; and brother, George Belcher.
Peggy is survived by two daughters, Sandy Prater and husband Ronnie of Oakwood, Va. and Pat Ratliff and husband Randy of Grundy, Va.; six grandchildren, Cassie Shortt, April Ratliff, David Ratliff, Ethan Prater, Amanda Haigler, and Cody Prater; and four great-grandchildren, Wyatt Fitzwater, Celie Fitzwater, Lawson Haigler, and Braxton Haigler.
Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2019, at Painter Creek Church of Christ, 24579 Green Spring Road, Abingdon, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church with Minister Mark Gaminde officiating. Entombment will follow at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Clinch Valley Cemetery Mausoluem in Richlands, Va. with Mitch Haigler, Jeff Shortt, Cody Prater, David Ratliff, Ethan Prater, and Wyatt Fitzwater serving as pallbearers.
