Richmond, VA- Peggy D. Coomes, October 21, 1921 - June 5, 2014. Peggy Coomes passed away recently at The Hermitage in Richmond, VA, where she had been a resident for the past few years. She was born in Wytheville, VA to Joseph Ernest and Effie Amanda Delp, grew up in Gate City, VA, and attended Madison College. Peggy was preceded in death by her first husband, John H. Eller, and by Harry L. Coomes, whom she married in 1977. Her eldest sister, Mary Elizabeth Rollins, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jim White of Richmond, VA; her grandson, Alex and his wife Susan and their children Eli and Sadie of Madison, WI; her sister, Shirley Frankum (Bob) of Huntington, NY and their children Cecily and Adrian Frankum; and daughter-in-law, Maria Tiu; and her niece, Judy Bohannon; and great nephew, John Dorton (Suzanne) and their two sons Ben and Gardner, all of Knoxville, TN. Additional survivors include Harry's daughters, Sandra Darden of Abingdon, VA and Virginia Hofmeister of Seattle, WA, and their four children and eight grandchildren. Peggy was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, in Abingdon, VA, where she had been an active parishioner, and a former member of the board of trustees of the William King Museum of Art in Abingdon. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 124 E. Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210. A committal service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the memorial service at Knollkreg Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
