Peggy Moore Blackwell, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She graduated from Emory and Henry College with a B.S. in Psychology and received her M.A. in Human Behavioral Psychology from Radford University. Her life's work was helping women at Abuse Alternatives and recovering addicts at Frontier Health/Bristol Regional Counseling Center. She regularly attended Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She was of the Methodist Faith and attended Mountain View United Methodist Church and Pleasant View United Methodist Church. She was also a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam War.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jessee Ellis Moore and Betty Widener Moore.
She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Charles Edward Blackwell; daughter, Rebecca Blackwell Bussey of Abingdon, VA; brother, Robert Moore and wife Martha of Shelby, NC; and two granddaugthers, Lydia Nicole Bussey and Haleigh Elizabeth Bussey both of Abingdon, VA.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Knollkreg Memorial Park with the Reverend Donald Thayer officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:45 p.m., Saturday at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Jerry Blackwell, Brad Bussey, Billy Moore, Robert Moore, Ronnie Moore, and Ray Warren. Dr. Butner will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
