Philip Spencer Horn, Jr., age 30, of Hansonville, Va., passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016, at his home. He was the second child born to Philip Spencer Horn, Sr. and Mary Denice Simmons Decie Horn on December 15, 1985, in Jackson, Miss. He was a 2005 graduate of Abingdon High School where he was named most athletic in his class having lettered in basketball, football, and soccer. Philip later coached basketball at Patrick Henry High School and was formerly employed at Highlands Community Services, as well as, the Boys and Girls Club. He was currently pursuing a degree in business administration at Virginia Highlands Community College.
Philip was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hugh and Betty Horn; and maternal grandfather, Dennis C. Simmons.
In addition to his parents, Philip is survived by his sister, Lesly Horn and Matthew McHugh of Bristol, Va.; maternal grandmother, Jeannine Simmons of Jacksonville, Fla.; the love of his life, Amy Adams of Hansonville, Va.; Trevor Adams and Julie Adams (who he considered his children) both of Hansonville, Va.; two uncles, Dennis Horn and wife Shirley Payne of Madison, Miss. and Steve Montgomery of Bellmont, Miss.; two aunts, Lou Ellen Montgomery of Leads, Ala. and Susan Johnson and husband Phil of Jacksonville, Fla.; two nephews, Emory and Eden McHugh; seven very special cousins; and many friends.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2016, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Va. 24210, with Pastor Paul Viers and Pastor Nick Viers officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Forest Hills Chapel prior to the service. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Knollkreg Memorial Park where Brad Chapman, Claude Gatlin, Matthew McHugh, Phil Johnson, Jeff Montgomery, Kevin Montgomery, Chris Rutledge, and Jeremy Rouse will serve as pallbearers. A procession will depart from the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. to the cemetery.
