Abingdon, Va. Phillip Rader Minnick, 65, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia. Phil served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He had worked as a car salesman, and he was a member of Green Spring Presbyterian Church. Phil enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Mary Hockett Minnick, and by his brother, Jimmy Minnick. Phil is survived by his wife, Jill Sweet Minnick; sister Sue Minnick Colley and husband Tommy of Jonesborough, Tenn.; mother-in-law Lynn Sweet of Abingdon; two nieces, Linden Cass of Denver, N.C. and Leslie Hohl of Talbot, Tenn.; and three very special God-children, Daylin, Peyton and Ashton Linkous, and their parents, Natalie and Josh, all of Abingdon. The funeral service for Phil Minnick will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, with Dr. Jonathan Feathers officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Forest Hills Chapel. Private entombment will be held in Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Tim Reynolds officiating.
