Phillip “Rodney” Ratcliffe, formerly of Falls Church, Va., passed peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2018, with family members at his side at Valley Health Care Center. Rod was born and raised in Glade Spring, Va. He was a graduate of Glade Spring High School and Emory and Henry College. He then joined the United States Air Force and upon completion of his service he moved to the Northern Virginia area where he resided until 2015. He was an employee of the United States Government. Rod was a kind, loving, and generous son, brother, uncle, and a good friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Hutton Ratcliffe and Virginia Widner Ratcliffe. Rod is survived by his brother, Nicholas Dale Ratcliffe and wife, Regina, of Gloucester Point, Va.; sister, Kathy Ratcliffe Evans and husband, Jim, of Glade Spring, Va.; two nephews, Jason Harris of Bristol, Tenn. and Jeremy Harris and wife, Christina, of Newton, Ala.; and two great nephews, Landon and Hunter Harris.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2018, at the Old Glade Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Pastor Allen Umbarger officiating. Friends and family are welcome to call at the home of Kathy and Jim Evans.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Pl., Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
