Phyllis Shew Belcher

Phyllis Marie Belcher, 85, of Abingdon, VA, passed away peacefully at NHC Bristol on April 24, 2025 surrounded by family. Phyllis was born in Glade Spring, VA., on, April 23, 1940, to the late Clarence and Eula Shew.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, John Belcher Sr., and her son, John Belcher Jr., along with several brothers, sisters, and special friends.

Phyllis attended Midway Church of the Living God in Abingdon, VA. She was an expert seamstress and sewed for Barter Theatre and several specialty shops in the area. After retirement, she volunteered for several years at Faith in Action, where she enjoyed serving the people of Washington County. She also enjoyed music and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Phyllis is survived by three daughters: Ava Bowman and husband Rick of Eagle River, Alaska, Edna Bowman and husband Glen of Blountville, TN, and Donna Fox of Abingdon; a special daughter-in-law, Coleen Belcher, of Gray, TN; nine special grandchildren; and eight precious great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 1:00 pm-2:00 pm at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA. Funeral services will be held at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Danny Thompson and Pastor David Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, pallbearers will be family and friends.
