Rev. R.J. Anderson, age 86, was called home to be with his Lord on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Abingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center. R.J. was a proud U.S. Army Veteran and served in WWII. Mr. Anderson worked for Reynolds Metal where he served as their Chaplain during his time there.

His faith was an important part of his life. He served as a Church of God minister for 53 years, served as Chaplain for the Disabled American Veterans and served as a Scout Master for the Church of God. R.J. is preceded in death by his parents, Reynolds Anderson, Sr. and Mattie Fogleman Anderson, as well as several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ethel Roark Anderson; two sons, James Timothy (Teresa) Anderson of Kingsport, TN and Mark Wayne Anderson of Abingdon, VA; four daughters, Kitty (Jerry) Hartsock of Bristol, TN, Sandy (Vann) Roark of Abingdon, VA, Jane Reynolds of Abingdon, VA and Jo Anna (Leonard) Bellamy of Abingdon, VA; one sister, Ann (Henry) Fugate of Abingdon, VA; nine grandchildren, Kelly Reynolds, Chad Reynolds, Courtney Hartsock Cocke, Jeff Hartsock, Brian Anderson, Cherie Anderson Burke, Kimberly Robinette, Tiffany Sneed and Nathan Roark; five great-grandchildren; special life-long friend, Rev. James Lawson.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Roger Williams and Rev. Steve Vaughn officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 4-6 P.M. just prior to the service.

A cryptside committal service will be held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens at 10:00A.M. Sunday with Military Rites conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Kelly Reynolds, Chad Reynolds, Nathan Roark, Roger Daughtery, Giles Burke and Frankie Fulton. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jonathan Swank and Dr. John Tursky.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of Southwest Virginia for the care they have provided Mr. Anderson.
