Ralph Leon (Lee) Price, Jr.

Ralph Leon (Lee) Price, Jr., 74, of Abingdon, Va., died peacefully at his home, Sunday, February 3, 2019. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., on February 5, 1944, he was a son of the late Ralph Leon Price, Sr. and Isabelle Marie Hengel Price. He was preceded in death by his parents.           

Mr. Price is survived by his wife of 29 years, Helen; his brother, Evan Price, of McKinney, Texas; his stepsons, Eddie Ortega and his wife, Kathryn, of Tampa, Fla. and Erik Ortega and his wife, Laura, of Fredericksburg, Va. and their children, Haley and Harrison. Mr. Price is also survived by his wife’s children, daughter, Catherine Elizabeth Buchanan St. Clair and her husband, Joe St. Clair, of Oakwood, Va.; son, William James Buchanan III and his wife, Catherine Tomann Buchanan, of California, Md.; son, Robert Charles Buchanan and his wife, Dorothy Benz Buchanan, of Fishers, Ind.; four step- grandchildren:  Jacob William St. Clair and his wife, Emily Kate St. Clair, of Muse, Pa.; Kevin Patrick Buchanan, of Lexington Park, Md.; Michael Joseph Buchanan, of Richmond, Va.; and Rebecca Kathleen Buchanan, of Fishers, Ind.; and two nephews, Adam Price and his wife, Vicki Price, and Greg Price and his wife, Kara Price, all of Texas. 

Mr. Price was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Abingdon, Va. He was a 1967 graduate of Rider College in Lawrenceville, N.J., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature.  Following graduation, he embarked on a 31-year career as a juvenile probation officer in Nassau County, N.Y.  He later moved to Arlington, Va. and continued his career, rising to the rank of Probation Supervisor with the Arlington County, Va., Juvenile Probation Court. He retired in 1999. Mr. Price had a lifetime enjoyment of riding motorcycles. Following his retirement, he worked part-time as a customer consultant and salesman at Morton’s BMW Motorcycles in Fredericksburg, Va., until he moved to Abingdon in 2004.  

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, February 15, 2019, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Boyd Evans officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the sender's choice.
