Raymond Everett Parris, 81, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010 at his home.
He was a native of Washington Co. and was a son of the late Vernie Elonzo and Essie Grey Parris. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and had made his living working in construction. He was a member of High Point Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Sarah Wilson, Ruby Osborne and Lula Merchant.
Survivors are his wife, Nettie F. Parris; his son, Billy Joe Parris of Staunton, VA; six daughters, Barbara Taweny of Abingdon, Brenda Smith of Buckeye, WV, Linda Surber of Marion, VA, Kathy Eckard of Elizabeth, WV, Janet Parris of the home and Donna Smith of Tazewell, VA; his brother, Gordon Parris of Saluda, SC; two sisters, Sena Martin of Saluda, SC and Alta Skeens of Chilhowie, VA; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Gordon Parris officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, VA.
Pallbearers will be David Surber, Chris McVey, Joey Taweny, R.D. McVey, Josh Smith and Jeremiah Smith. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends at Farris Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. until service time Tuesday.
