Raymond Nelson Vannoy, 71, loving husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with his Savior on November 28, 2018 at his home following a short illness. He was a Christian and belonged to Palestine Baptist Church.
He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Crisis. During his life he worked as an electrician, heavy equipment operator, and owned his own trucking company. Raymond was a hard worker and a good provider. The highlight of Raymond’s life were his children and grandchildren, and in his later years he enjoyed spending time with them and camping with his wife.
Raymond is survived by his wife Henrietta Vannoy of Damascus, Va.; two sons, Robert Wayne Vannoy (wife Melissa) of Damascus, Va., and David Nelson Vannoy (wife Sarah) of Abingdon, Va.; stepdaughter, Amanda Phillips Davis (husband Warren), and stepson Nathaniel David Phillips (wife Regina), both of Knoxville, Tenn. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and five great- grandchildren whom he loved dearly, and two sisters, Thelma Vannoy Blake of Abingdon, Va., and Romagean Vannoy Personne of Montrose, Col.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 p.m Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Steven Richardson officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
