Rev. John Cecil Clifton, age 80, was carried by the angels to his eternal rest on Tuesday, August 24, 2010.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, son of the late Arthur Curtis Clifton and Lilly Cunningham Clifton. Rev. Clifton was pastor at several churches and evangelized in many churches in the area. He had worked as a carpenter with Johnson Brothers Builders. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Rev. Clifton dearly loved his grandchildren and other family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant children, one grandchild, and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah Mae Clifton; one son, Rev. Charles Clifton and wife Diane of Meadowview; one daughter, Eula Helton and husband Robert of Abingdon; one sister, Clara Wilcox and husband Paul of Meadowview; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service for Rev. Cecil Clifton will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Corie Dye, Matt Jessee, Bobby Helton, David Helton, Ronnie Wilcox and Jerry Clifton. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Grimsley and the men of Barnes Chapel and Trinity Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. â?? 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service
