Bristol, VA The Rev. Roy Franklin Gose, age 75 and resident of the Grand Court Community, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, TN, following an extended illness. Rev. Gose was born March 4, 1939, to the late Margaret Smith Gose Watson and James R. Gose in Wise, VA. During his early years, Frank was very active in the Boy Scouts where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the Palms and the God and Country Award. He was a graduate of Bristol High School and went on to graduate from the University of Richmond with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiology, the Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA where he earned his Divinity Degree, and the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA. Frank became an Episcopal Rector and served churches in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maine. During his time in Pennsylvania, the congregation did not have a church but one was soon built. Rev. Gose retired after serving the church for 45 years and returned to Bristol, VA. He is survived by his brother, Jim Gose of Piney Flats, TN; nephew, Richard Gose of Conway, SC; niece, Becky Haworth of Johnson City, TN; great-nephew, Logan Gose of Conway, SC; aunt and uncle, Robert and Gerri Smith of Bristol, VA; and many cousins. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. Hilary Streever officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. just prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
