Richard B. Johnson

Mr. Richard B. Johnson, 82, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021, at Ballad Health Hospice House after bravely battling cancer. He was a native of Lebanon, Virginia, son of the late Porter and Dorothy Johnson. He attended Fellowship Chapel in Bristol. R.B. had a passion for playing golf and worked as a starter at Clear Creek Golf Club. That passion also extended to winning at “friendly” betting on the NASCAR races and college bowl games with his son.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Merlie B. “Chubby” Johnson.
He is survived by daughters, Deborah F. Timmons and Tammie K. Johnson; son, Rick Johnson and wife, Robin; sister, Janice Barger and husband, Mack; brother, Donnie Johnson and wife, Susie; four granddaughters, Allyson Harness and husband, Joe, Alexandra Lemieaux and husband, Jon, Lauren Prieto, and Ashley Unger and husband, Justin; grandson, Matt Johnson; and great grandchildren, Adrianna, Jax, and Leo. He is also survived by caring and supportive in-laws Ronnie Hubble and wife Laura and Nancy Bollinger and husband Larry as well as many wonderful neighbors.
R.B.(Dick) reconnected with classmate Evelyn Trinkle after the deaths of their spouses and formed a very loving and supportive companionship for which the family is truly thankful.
The funeral service for Richard B. (R.B.) Johnson will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Scott Price officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon, VA.; family and friend are encouraged to meet at the mausoleum.
Due to Covid restrictions we would ask that the service be family, neighbors, and invited close friends. The entombment will follow the service where all are welcome.
