Richard Rooksberry, a man known for his humor the owner of R&R Painting Company, bid farewell to this world on January 12, 2024. Born on November 16, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, Richard exuded a zest for life that left an indelible mark on all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Richard's enthusiasm and dedication extended not only to his professional endeavors but also to his personal interests. When he wasn't painting he could often be found indulging in his passion for drag racing. The exhilaration he felt as he zoomed down the track mirrored the vigor he brought to every aspect of his life.
Yet beyond these accomplishments that made Richard a truly remarkable individual was his unwavering faith. It was through his profound spirituality that Richard discovered solace, strength, and an unwavering sense of purpose. His faith served as a guiding light throughout his journey and touched the lives of everyone around him. He had a great love for his church family.
He is survived by his devoted wife Peggy Harless Rooksberry, their son Michael Rooksberry, granddaughter Courtney Rooksberry, and great-grandson Watson McCall, special friend Derek Czaozeck and sister-in-law Stephanie Rooksberry. Richard built deep connections with friends and family alike, maintaining strong bonds throughout the years. His vibrant spirit and uplifting personality will continue to inspire all those who knew him.
To honor Richard's memory with love and respect, a visitation will be held on January 14th at West Main Free Will Baptist Church in Abingdon, Virginia. Friends and family will gather at the church from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM for a heartfelt remembrance of Richard's life. This will be followed by a Funeral Service from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, where we will celebrate the immeasurable impact he had on our lives.
Richard Rooksberry is preceded in death by his father, Francis Elmer Rooksberry, his mother, Ruth Geneive Sherwanick Rooksberry, and his brother, Robert Rooksberry. As we celebrate Richard's life and bid him farewell, let us find solace in the memories we shared and take comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever be with us.
As we say our final goodbyes to this remarkable man, let us remember him not with sorrow but with gratitude for the joy he brought into our lives. Richard Rooksberry will forever hold a special place in our hearts as a loving husband, devoted father, doting grandfather, cherished great-grandfather, and faithful friend. May his soul rest in eternal peace as we carry his light within us always.
