Abingdon, Va. – Richard Thomas Wilson, 63, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. Richard was born in Tipton County, Tenn. to the late Emmett William Wilson and Effie Downey Wilson. He traveled the globe working as a contractor where he supervised the construction of the Casa Caribe Resort in Belize and also tasks in Russia. Richard had a passion for music and loved to write poetry and songs, play the guitar and sing, and teach others such as his nephew Ricky Jaimez the gift of music.
In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his daughter, Chelsea Linette Wilson; brother, William Fred Wilson; and sisters, Dorothy Smith, Jean Andrews, Florence Cornelia Poole, and Annie Ruth Hewlett.
He is survived by his sons, Josh Wilson of Bristol, Va. and Senior Airman Arick Wilson, U.S.A.F. of Japan; brothers, Jerry Wilson, J.W. Wilson, and John Wilson; sisters, Laverne Johnson and Beth Jaimez; grandson, Edan Zane Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
