Rita Fay Sykes Roe, 51, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009 at her home in Abingdon, VA and is at eternal rest with her Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ.
She was born May 12, 1958 in Lebanon, VA and was a daughter of Shirley Kiser Sykes of Abingdon, VA and the late Arvil Eugene Sykes. She was a 1977 graduate of Lebanon High School and worked as a benefits screener for Washington County Social Services. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Abingdon. Fay loved flowers and she felt most at peace tending to and working in her beautiful flower gardens. She was a cherished Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Grandmother and Friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 31 years, Ronnie Roe; her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Robert Sellers of Chantilly, VA; her grandchildren, Ethan and Faith Sellers, who she loved with all her heart; sisters, Kim Kingsley and Ronnie, and Barbara Sykes, both of Abingdon; brothers, David Sykes and Missy of Abingdon, and Mike Sykes and Nannie of Honaker; brothers-in-law and their wives, Donald and Linda Roe, Dan and Faye Roe, and Mike Roe; her mother-in-law, Ruby Roe; special friends, Sharon and Tim Matthews, and Diana Combs; several aunts and uncles; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a special church family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Bryan Treadway officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the church. Committal services will be held Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Colonial Chapel of Forest Hills Memory Gardens at 11:00 A.M. Pallbearers will be Tim Dickenson, Jarrod Farmer, Jeff Haga, Chad Lampkins, Jason Rouse, Frank Stophel, Michael Sykes and Waylon Sykes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Barrett, Stacey Bayse, Kerry Jones, Joseph Martin, Tim Matthews, Clayton Roe, David Roe, Tony Roe, Robert Sellers, and Dalton Sykes.
