Rita Dotson Reynolds, a beloved member of the Abingdon community, passed away on April 13, 2024. Rita was born in Hurley, VA, on May 8, 1950, to the late Lonnie Dotson and Dorothy Justus Dotson.
Rita's love for learning was evident in her own academic achievements. She graduated from Hurley High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Education from UVA-Wise. Her impact on generations of students and her contributions to the educational field will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives she touched.
Her passion for education led her to become a math teacher at various schools, including Hurley, VA, Chesterfield, South Carolina, John Battle High School, and Whitewood Middle School. Rita's commitment extended beyond the classroom as she also taught in the after-school program in Washington County for many years. Additionally, she served as the Receiving Treasurer at Green Spring Presbyterian Church for over 25 years, embodying a spirit of generosity and dedication.
Outside of her professional life, Rita found joy in hobbies such as sewing and cross-stitching. She was particularly proud of her accomplishments in gardening and canning, winning numerous blue ribbons at the Washington County Fair for her canned goods. Rita's creative spirit and dedication shone through in everything she pursued.
In her passing, Rita is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Jasper E. Reynolds; devoted daughter Loni Sophia Reynolds; caring sisters Anita Blankenship (Eli) and Yvonne Rife; supportive brothers Larry Dotson(Linda) and Michael Dotson (Eva); uncle Clinton Justus (Ruby); aunt Delfa "Pat" Justus; and a host of other family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
Visitation for Rita Dotson Reynolds will be held on April 16, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Farris Funeral Service – Main Street Chapel in Abingdon. The Funeral Service will take place at Green Spring Presbyterian Church on April 17, 2024, starting at 11:00 AM with Rev. Deidra Crosby officiating, followed by the Burial at Green Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 12:00 PM, family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Rita's legacy of kindness, knowledge, and creativity will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her unwavering dedication to her community and loved ones.
