Robert B. Baldwin

Robert B. (Bob) Baldwin, age 84, peacefully departed this life for an everlasting one on Saturday, September 28, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born on February 4, 1929 to William and Ida Baldwin at Holden, WV. He grew up in Logan, WV where he attended school, graduating from Logan High School in 1946. Upon high school graduation Bob served in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in the Pacific and Asia. After his military tour Bob attended West Virginia University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Bob pursued a career in the coal industry where he was considered an innovator in miner training. He retired from the Pittston Coal Group in 1995. Bob was a jazz music connoisseur and an avid supporter of his beloved W.V.U. Mountaineers. He was a member of the Old Glade Presbyterian Church where he was supported by many friends and his minister, Reverend Timothy Bird.
To cherish his memory include, Barbara, his wife of 59 years; daughter, Lisa Harrison and her husband Nathan, of Sale Creek, TN; son, Robert L. (Bud) Baldwin and his wife Susan, of Chapmanville, WV. Grandchildren include: Allison, Bryn and Nathan Harrison and Will, Beth, and Rob Baldwin. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and William Baldwin; sisters, Lillian, Francis, Ruby, and Ruth; and brothers, Ray and Bill.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Forest Hills Chapel with the Reverend Timothy Bird officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Old Glade Presbyterian Church, 33234 Lee Hwy, Glade Spring, VA 24340.
