Mr. Robert Benjamin McAllister, 81, passed away Friday, December 16, 2011, at the Wellmont Hospice House. He was born in Columbus, Ohio and had served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of State Street Church of Christ in Bristol. Mr. McAllister enjoyed westerns, and he loved attending family reunions. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Ethel McAllister, and by a sister, Wanda Cole.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. John Green and Dr. Blow, Wellmont Hospice, and his church family at State Street Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Christine McAllister; two sons: Robert "Barry" McAllister and wife Connie of Abingdon; and David McAllister of Chilhowie; two daughters: Barbara McAllister of Oakwood, VA; and Susan Whitt and husband John of Richlands, VA; one step-son, Ronald Parnell and wife Beth of Arkansas; two step-daughters: Linda Silvey of Bristol, VA; and Patricia Parnell of Palm Beach, FL; one brother, Joseph McAllister and wife Dorothy of Bastian, VA; three sisters: Pat Marshall of Woodford, VA; Geraldine Stanley and husband Broaddus of Spotsylvania, VA; and Carol Grooms of Kannapolis, NC; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Robert Benjamin McAllister will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210. Dan C. Bailey, Minister, will officiate the service. Entombment will follow in Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills, with military rites offered by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and Virginia National Guard Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the Forest Hills Chapel Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wellmont Hospice House, 280 Steeles Road, Bristol, TN 37620.
