Robert "Bob" Lee Jones

Abingdon, Va.

Robert Lee “Bob” Jones, age 81, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center.  He was born in Washington County, Va. and a lifelong resident of Abingdon. Bob was a 1958 graduate of Bethel School, after which, he served in the U.S. Army for 10 years as a clerk and continued his service in the U.S. Army Reserves. He retired from Electro Mechanical in December 2010 after 12 years of employment. Bob enjoyed amateur radio (MEARS KD40ZE), mowing his yard, reading on the porch and “yard sale-ing.”

Bob was predeceased by his first wife Brenda Lowe and parents Nat and Bea Jones.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years Gail Jones, daughter Jennifer Ray and husband Kenny, son Danny Jones and wife Sherry, sister Betty Osborne, stepson Bryan Cunningham, stepdaughter Bridget Cooney and husband Michael Dress, grandchildren Heather Pope and husband Kenny, Cody Nunley and wife Samantha, Cassidy Cooney, Collin Ray and wife Madison, and Connor Ray, great grandson Noah Pope.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A crypt side service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 21, 2022, at the mausoleum in Mountain View Cemetery; 1019 Valley Dr., Bristol, Va. conducted by Rev. Charlie Fugate. Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan Cunningham, Cody Nunley, Kenny Pope, Collin Ray, Connor Ray, and Connor Johnson. Honorary bearers will be Danny Jones and Noah Pope. Military rites will be performed by the U.S. Army National Guard and the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard.

Those attending are asked to meet at the mausoleum 15 minutes prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Ballad Hospice House; 280 Steeles Rd., Bristol, TN 37620 or Mountain Empire Amateur Radio, P.O. Box 1971, Abingdon, Va. 24210 in Bob’s name.
