Robert Bruce Kilgore, age 80, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013. He was born to the late Wilson Roosevelt Kilgore and Lura Moorefield Kilgore in Warrior Mine, WV on June 20, 1932. Bob was a loving family man who lived his life in service to others. He was a Deacon, an Elder, and an active participant in various churches through the years and in many charitable organizations and civic clubs. He loved Virgina Tech, power companies, a good piece of pie, coal mines, trains and southwest Virginia. He preferred a country road to the highway. He traveled widely and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends near and far.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Charlene D. Kilgore; and brother, Jerry Kilgore. He is survived by his son, R. Scott Kilgore and wife Carrie of Vienna, VA; daughter, Sara Szwarc and husband Adam of Portland, OR; four grandchildren, Jane Katherine Kilgore, Christopher Robert Kilgore, Nadia Szwarc, and Marisa Szwarc; and niece, Cynthia Kilgore Shaikh and husband Naeem of Richmond, VA.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Abingdon United Methodist Church with Reverend Sherry Boles officiating. A reception for the family will follow in the fellowship hall at the church.
