Robert Daniel Chappell, age 72, passed on Sunday, January 13, 2012 at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, VA. He was a native of Abingdon where he spent most of his life. He was a member of Charles Wesley United Methodist Church.
Mr. Chappell held a Masters Degree in Mathematics and worked as a mathematician for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration from which he retired.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary Lou Johnson Chappell; brothers, Samuel E. and Paul B. Chappell; and sister, Sarah L. Chappell Brown.
He is survived by five nephews, Edward Campbell, Randolph Campbell, Ollie Hubert Cox, Benjamin Chappell and Paul Chappell.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Charles Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Kariuki officiating. Interment will follow in High Point Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00 A.M just prior to the service at the church.
