Robert Frank West

Robert Frank West, age 73, of Meadowview, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 10, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born December 8, 1943, to the late Frank West and June Barnes West in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the 9th Infantry Division of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge. He owned and operated Bob’s Well Pump Service from 1978-2006. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, woodworking, bird watching, and traveling to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Robert was also preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Opal Geneva Terry West; daughter, Tammy June West Smith; two brothers, Lonnie West and Billy West.

He is survived by four daughters: Heather Reinwall and husband Michael of Spotsylvania, Va.; Barbara Rascon and husband T.R. of Raleigh, N.C.; Donna Flynn and husband Ryan of Front Royal, Va.; and Terri Cabanilla and husband Louis of Arlington, Mass.; son-in-law, Danny Smith of Frederick, Md.; three siblings: Bonnie Gibson and husband Randall of Rockville, Md.; Lynn Nicholson and husband Michael of Louisville, Ky.; and John West and wife Cindy of Damascus, Md.; brother-in-law, Calvin Fields of Bedford, Va.; four sisters-in-law: Eula Terry of Saltville, Va.; Ruby Thompson and husband Stuart of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; Ada Woodward of Meadowview, Va.; and Mae Belle Poston and husband Roger of Meadowview, Va.; 16 grandchildren: Steven, Daniel, Kevin, Robert, and Joseph Reinwall; Ryan, Evan, and Erica Smith; Rebecca and Jessica Rascon; Charlie, Sean, Liam, and Laurel Flynn; Geneva and Lena Cabanilla; a great grandson, Troy; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Steve Vaughn officiating. A committal service will be held at Fall Hill Cemetery where Danny Smith, T.R. Rascon, Ryan Flynn, Louis Cabanilla, Ryan Smith, and Evan Smith will serve as pallbearers. Military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at the funeral home.
