Robert Ryan Grant, formerly of Marion, NC passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at St. Lukes Hospital in Maumee, OH. Robert was born on November 8, 1943 in Abingdon, VA to L. Marshall and Eleanor Grant. He resided in Abingdon, in the Bethel Community, until his marriage to Melinda Mercer in 1972. Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was employed by Con-Agra Foods as a laborer for over 25 years. He was an active member of both the American Legion Post 384 (Whitehouse, OH) and the Maumee-BG Elks #1850 (Maumee, OH). Robert enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and a good pipe of tabacco. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John Grant, Tim Grant, and Bill Grant, and sister Louise Dye. He is survived by his son Ryan (Jennifer) of Whitehouse, OH; sisters Eula Grant and Shirley Rhoten of Abingdon, VA and Mary Gay Schunke (Neil) of Marion, NC; his brother James grant of Long Beach, CA; his grandchildren Kailyn, Korbin, Kendall and Oliver Grant; his former wife Melinda Hipsher, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for a future date.
