Abingdon, Va. – Rosa Keeler Slavik, age 62, passed away at Johnson City Medical Center on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. She was born June 18, 1959 in Winchester, Virginia to the late Charles Henry and Margaret Lucille Wilkinson Keeler of Middletown, Virginia.
Rosa earned her B.S. and Master’s degrees in Ag Extension Tech Education at Virginia Tech; she taught for two years prior to marriage. She also worked as Grant Coordinator at Virginia Highlands Community College. Her varied career also included 17 years with the USDA-ASCS. Most recently, Rosa served as an ordained Minister with the United Methodist Church, having earned her Master of Divinity degree at Hood Theological Seminary in North Carolina.
Rosa was an avid reader with eclectic tastes in literature. She liked to travel, especially to Mexico and Costa Rica. She participated in many mission trips. She also loved dogs, horses, and anything involving agriculture or horticulture.
Rosa was a people person who loved hosting and entertaining, especially for her friends and family. She will always be most fondly remembered as a hugger.
In addition to her parents, Rosa was preceded in death by son-in-law, Todd McIntyre.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Tom Slavik; four daughters, Heather Slavik Delatos, Holli Relyea (Bryan), Louise McIntyre, and Mary Waldmuller (Jeff); one brother, Phil Keeler; and seven grandchildren, Danii, Hanna, Nick, Abby, Zach, Emma Rose, and Lucy Grace.
A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
