Rosa Lee Salyers, age 76, of Washington County, Va., passed away in her home on Friday, November 26, 2021, after a long illness. She was born on January 1, 1945, to the late Harley Avery Cannon and Josephine Lorrine Urbani Cannon. She was a loving and selfless woman. She cared for 27 foster children and one beloved adopted daughter, Nia Conlon, throughout the course of her life, showing her caring and maternal nature. She was an avid gardener, especially when she was able to cultivate beautiful roses. Her gardens attracted hummingbirds, and she would spend hours sitting and watching them. Overall, her life was filled with love, caring, and endless compassion; she never met a stranger.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Kermit Salyers, Sr.; her four brothers, James Cannon, Lamuel Cannon, Wayne Cannon, and Bobby Cannon; and her sister, Ollie Thomas.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, James Kermit Salyers, Jr. and his wife, Reneé; daughter, Eva Sheree Ward and her partner, Quan Battle; her step-mother, Thelma Cannon; her grandchildren, Majdi Kayyali, Matthew Kayyali, Aisha Kayyali, Katie Miller, Brandon Bowers, Ciera Bowers, Deavon Pickle, Christian Pickle, Austin Estep, Cooper Estep, and Baby Battle; 14 great grandchildren; her siblings, Phyllis Jessee, Charlie Cannon, Linda Steffey, Brenda Caywood, David Cannon, and Tim Cannon; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the funeral home will be accepting donations to help the family offset the cost of final arrangements.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
