Roy David Mitchell

Roy David Mitchell, age 71, passed on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Roy was a lifelong resident of Abingdon and was a member of Central Baptist Church. He worked for VDOT for 26 years and was preceded in death by his parents, Walker and Emma Thomas Mitchell, and two daughters, Nancy Faye and Patricia Ann Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Willie Marie Mitchell; three sons, John David Mitchell of Farmville, VA, Dallas M. Whaling of Bristol, TN, and Jimmy Whaling of Abingdon, VA; four daughters, Vickie Whaling of Palm Crest, FL, Sue Yowell of Wilmington, NC, Darlene Whaling of Abingdon, VA, and Tasha Mitchell of Mt. City, TN; sister, Ruth M. Fuller of Meadowview, VA; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Central Baptist Church with Pastor Les Ketron officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Bill Fuller, Ernie Fuller, Wayne Fuller, David Mitchell, Jimmy Whaling and Dave McCracken serving as pallbearers.
