Ruby Browning Hilt

Abingdon, VA- Ruby Browning Hilt, age 88, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2014 surrounded by her family and husband of 64 years. She was a lifelong member of Spring Creek Presbyterian Church. Ruby, a retired Washington County school teacher of 38 years, was preceded in death by her parents, James Edward Browning and Clara Thayer Browning; son, Mike Hilt; two grandchildren, David and Amy Hilt; two brothers, Tivis and John Browning; and two sisters, Mary and Pauline McConnell. She is survived by her husband, Wilton H. Hilt; son, Robert Hilt and wife Sandy of Abingdon, VA; daughter-in-law, Karen H. Hilt of Abingdon, VA; former daughter-in-law, Cathy L. Maine of Abingdon, VA; identical twin sister, Ann Sprinkle and husband Leighton of Abingdon, VA; five grandchildren, Susie Hilt, Amanda Hilt Wampler, Luke Hilt, Sally Hilt, and Kayla Hilt; three great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 29th at Green Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Pastor Stephen Talbert officiating. Pallbearers will be Luke Hilt, Michael Ireson, Eddie McConnell, Joe McConnell, Mark McConnell, Tom McConnell, Robbie Snider, and Steve Sprinkle. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Cathy L.
