Ruby Jean Roark Fields, age 75, passed away on November 18, 2024 in Abingdon, Virginia. Born on July 20, 1949, in Washington, Virginia, to the late Charles Lawson Roark and Lissie Quillen Roark, she lived a life marked by kindness, warmth, and dedication to her loved ones and her work.
Ruby graduated from Abingdon High School in 1968 and furthered her education by earning a certificate in Computer Technology from Virginia Highlands Community College. Her professional journey culminated in a notable 14-year tenure with the Southwest Regional Lab, where she excelled as an office specialist. She loved her work and her co-workers.
She delighted in planting flowers and nurturing them, which reflected her nurturing spirit and love for nature.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her brothers, Cecil and Jimmy Roark.
Ruby's family was always central to her life. She is survived by her loving husband, Harold Fields, with whom she shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. Ruby was also proud of her son, Keith Fields, and his wife, Tracy Gay, who brought her immense joy. In addition, she leaves behind her siblings: her brother Johnny Roark, her sister Katherine Figueroa and brother-in-law Louis, and her sister Diane Rouse. Ruby cherished her relationships with her several nieces and nephews, all of whom added vibrant colors to her life.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Carvosso United Methodist Church in Abingdon, VA, from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM, followed by a funeral service that will begin at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with Larry Barrett, Tony Barrett, Randy Roark, Michael Roark, Matthew Roark, Trevor Rouse, Jeff Pruitt and Chris Pruitt as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Carvosso United Methodist Church.
Ruby Jean Roark Fields leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, generosity, and commitment to both family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Carvosso United Methodist Church, 19429 Rustic Lane, Abingdon, VA 24210.
