Mrs. Ruby Pigman passed from this world to enter her eternal home with the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 26th, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Clyde Pigman. Ruby was born in Pike County, Kentucky on August 17th, 1926. Ruby grew up in Eastern Kentucky in the Indian Creek Community of Virgie, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Sylvester and Myrtle Osborne. She had one sister and three brothers, all preceding her in death.
Ruby met her future husband, Clyde, while they were both in college preparing for a life of service to children as educators. Ruby's love for children was clearly evident during the years that she taught elementary school. She first taught at Virgie Elementary in Virgie, Kentucky. The Pigmans then moved to Abingdon, Virginia where Ruby continued her teaching career at High Point Elementary in Bristol, Virginia, and then at William King Elementary and Abingdon Elementary as a Kindergarten teacher.
Continuing her desire to help children succeed in life led her to become a high school guidance counselor. After gaining additional education and qualifications Ruby finished her career as an educator as the guidance counselor at Abingdon High School.
Ruby's greatest love in life was spending time with her family. She leaves behind her daughter, Mrs. Kimberly Pigman Osborne, son-in-law Mr. Keith Osborne, three grand daughters, Mrs. Kendra Osborne Fuller, Miss Deidre Celeste Osborne, and Miss Anne-Catherine Osborne. One great grand daughter, Miss Taylor Grace Osborne has been a special light in Ruby's life for the past three years since her birth. Her grand daughter Kendra's husband, Mr. Michael Fuller and grand daughter Anne-Catherine's friend, Mr. Joseph Leone, are both very special to Ruby. All of the above are of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Ruby also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, and aunts, all whom she dearly loved. Ruby had many special friends that she had developed over the years in each of the communities that she had lived in, from Eastern Kentucky to the greater Abingdon/Tri-Cities area of VA/TN to her current home in Raleigh. She had a special touch and gentle way of caring for those she met and came to know and love.
Ruby is a member of Abingdon Baptist Church. Since moving to Raleigh she has been faithful in her attendance at Tabernacle Baptist Church near her home.
Friends and family will be received at Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon, Virginia on Saturday, October 30 from 6-8pm.
