Meadowview, VA – Russell Thomas Smith, Jr., age 86 and lifelong resident of Meadowview, passed on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Cornerstone Village in Johnson City, TN. Tommy was a graduate of Meadowview High School and was a farmer his entire life. He attended Meadowview United Methodist Church, was a board member of Farmer’s Mutual Insurance, and enjoyed sharing his passion for Chinese Checkers and Rook with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell Thomas Smith, Sr. and Juanita Keller Smith.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Hancock Smith; two daughters, Debbie Smith (Jim Prater), and Karen Smith, both of Meadowview, VA; and special friends, Roy and Teresa Foglesong.
Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Knollkreg Memorial Park Mausoleum with Dr. John Roberts officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Cornerstone Village, Select Specialty Hospital, and Bristol Regional Medical Center for the care they provided Mr. Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
