Sarah Elizabeth Pyle Bowers

Glade Spring, VA- Sarah Elizabeth Pyle Bowers, age 93, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born on July 8, 1921, in Kingsport, TN, the second of three children born to the late Harold O’Brian Pyle and Lorena Nancy Taylor Pyle. She retired from Harwood Manufacturing Company where she was employed as a seamstress and was a member of Glade Spring Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Sarah was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Frank Lorenzo Bowers; daughter, Judith Ann Bowers; brother, William Pyle; sister, Betsy Hellums; two sons-in-law, Sammy Blackwell and Henry Doss; and niece, Vera Pyle. Sarah is survived by three daughters, Mary Blackwell and Gwendolyn Doss both of Glade Spring, VA, and Frances Brabston and husband Allyn of Knoxville, TN; 10 grandchildren: Melba Mullins, who was her caregiver, Billy, and Reno Mullins, Susan Stone, Sarah Sutherland, Terry Blackwell, Nancy Greer, Judith Ann Edwards, Chris Brabston, and Hope Hardy; 26 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren, and a very special great-granddaughter whom she raised, Sarah Katherine Frye. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral ceremony will be held at Glade Spring Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015 with Pastor Dennis Blazier officiating. Interment will follow at Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery where Reno Mullins II, Chance Mullins, Joseph McClanahan, Matthew Shortt, Billy Mullins III, O’Brian Williams, Tommy Puckett, and Shane Puckett will serve as pallbearers. Reno Mullins, Billy Mullins II, Chris Brabston, and Henry Stone will serve as honorary pallbearers.
