Sharon Ann Tindell Goodpasture of Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2019.
She was met by her husband of 51 years, Richard “Dick” Goodpasture, as well as her parents, Thomas Wylie and Mary Lucille Tindell and her brother Thomas. She is survived by two loving and dedicated sons, Richard Thomas “Tom,” of Hanover, Va. and Willard Scott of Winston-Salem, N.C., as well as two daughters-in-law Melanie (Tom) and Meggan (Scott), and three grandchildren, Gracie (18), Elliot (11) and John Beckett (8).
She was born on July 3, 1942, in Chicago, Ill. and raised on the Hurican in Wise, Va. Sharon was a registered nurse with a specialty in geriatric care, and worked for the Bristol Regional Medical Center in her early years of nursing, Upjohn Home Health Care, and retired from the Virginia Department of Health. She and Dick loved spending time with their grandchildren and could be found fly-fishing in any river they passed. After retirement, they spent time traveling and Sharon began expressing her artistic abilities through watercolor, pastel and acrylic painting. She won the 23rd Depot Art Association Special Holiday Open House People’s Choice award for her depiction of “Geese in Winter.” Sharon found true joy in her beautiful flower gardens, and was a Master Gardener. She had a green thumb and could make anything grow.
Long-time members of First Baptist Church of Bluff City, Tenn., she was a member of the choir, helped coordinate programs and services for members with special needs, and participated in an active and philanthropic Sunday school class. Dick and Sharon raised their boys in the church and made the Lord the foundation of their home. All were always welcome for a burger on the grill or a game of Pictionary.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon, Va. with Pastor Mike Pope officiating. Interment will follow at the Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
