Sharon Linell Rowland

Linell Rowland passed away Wednesday. October, 23, 2024 at the home of her companion, Larry A. Overbay at Glade Spring, Virginia.

Linell was born in Ogden, Utah and grew up in Colorado. She came to Virginia after graduation from high school to attend Emory and Henry College and had since made Virginia her home. After graduating with honors from Emory and Henry, Linell began her career with the Social Security Administration retiring as a Technical Expert after thirty years of service.

Linell was preceded in death by her parents, Linwood J. Stevenson and Ellen Proctor; her husband, John Robert Rowland; and her son, George Randall Rowland.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Lucille Ameigh of Lincolnton, NC; brothers, Linwood Proctor Stevenson ( Anne) of Knoxville, Tennessee and Thomas Leo Stevenson (Suzanne) of Port Charlotte, Florida; many cousins and special cousin, Mary Beth Floyd of Bristol, TN. She is also survived by her companion of many years, Larry A. Overbay of Glade Spring, Virginia. Linell was a loving aunt and is survived by several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Larry’s daughter, Ashley Terrell and her two children who lovingly called her Nellnell.

Linell loved Larry, her family, dogs, sweets and long rides on Virginia backroads. She was a friendly, outgoing person who never saw a stranger and before the conversation was over, she was showing her dog pictures.

The visitation will be at Farris Funeral Service - Main Street location on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 6:00-8:00PM. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. David Gary beginning at 2:00PM on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Farris Funeral Service - Main Street location.

Interment will take place at the Holston Conference Cemetery in Emory, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Linwood Stevenson, Thomas Stevenson, Reed Stevenson, Fred Overbay, Lacy Wright and John Wayne Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be the mixed adult Sunday school class of Friendship Baptist Church. Special thanks to CARIS Health Services, Fred and Opal Overbay and Rev. David and Lieu Via Gary.
