Dateline: Abingdon, VA- Sharon Smith Hembree, age 64, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Jewell “Judy” Garland Smith and Jack Smith, founder of K-VA-T Food Stores and parent company of Food City. Sharon spent her career in nursing at various private practices, as well as, the Washington County Health Department and Greendale and Abingdon Elementary Schools. She was a world traveler and an avid horsewoman. Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Thomas R. Hembree; son, Scott Andrew “Drew” Hembree and wife Ashley of Abingdon; daughter, Melanie Hembree Penner and husband Mitchell of Naples, FL; brother, Steve Smith and wife Debbie of Abingdon; sister, Stephanie David of Richlands; two grandchildren, Addison Renee Hembree and Jack Andrew Hembree; a nephew and several nieces. A funeral ceremony will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015, at 12:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Mike Rife officiating. Entombment will follow in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 30th from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
